Gray-Switch allows you to conveniently switch your device's display mode between full color and grayscale either using a quick settings tile (Android 7 or newer), a launcher icon, automatically when the battery charge has fallen below a configured value, and/or during a configurable time schedule (e.g. at night time).
If you are running Android 9 (Android P) or newer you don't necessarily need this app. You can also use the built-in Digital Wellbeing/Wind Down setting. However, it does not allow you to exclude applications from grayscale mode nor automatically enables grayscale mode on low battery.

Declaration of AccessibilityService-API Usage
The optional feature to exclude certain apps from grayscale mode requires the usage of the AccessibilityService-API. The AccessibilityService-API is only used to determine the ID of current foreground application to automatically enable or disable the grayscale mode. No data is collected.

**Setup:**
Connect your phone to a PC with Android SDK Platform Tools installed and execute the following command after you installed the app on the phone:

Perfect. Once it's set up, you can swipe down and touch grayscale to toggle between grayscale and color. No fuss, it just works, exactly how you'd hope. Great tool for lowering the draw to your phone as a distraction, while being able to quickly switch back to color when you want to take pictures, watch shows, whatever. It can be a little hard to set up, but the instructions are spot on, ask a nerdfriend to help if needed.

Wasn't as difficult to install and worked great for a while. It definitely helped with extending the battery when switched on at low percentage. But after a few months it started malfunctioning. For example, it started to flicker forth and back from color to grayscale mode, so eventually I uninstalled it. Then my phone was stuck in grayscale mode. To turn the color mode back on I had to reinstall the app.

After some struggles with setting it up, it worked! If you are having trouble finding your device after inputting the "adb devices" command, try turning on "Stay Awake" on your device and then turning USB Debugging on and trying again. The Command Prompt was able to find my device after that! I've found that app exclusion feature is a hit or miss, sometimes it takes a couple of minutes to recognize an excluded app and turn the color back on. Other times it doesn't at all. Much thanks anyway!

Dear Vivian, thank you for your positive feedback. In the Android universe each phone seems to be a unicorn and behaves slightly different. Therefore thanks a lot for the tip regarding the "Stay Awake" setting!
